What Are Driver Certifications and How Are They Achieved?

  • Updated

Some Gigs require certifications in order for you to be matched to them. Below you will find a list of certifications, what they mean, and how they are achieved.

List of Certifications:

  • Trailer Required
  • Extra Equipped
  • TSA Certification

Trailer Required

Some oversized Gigs require trailers for successful delivery. These Gigs typically consist of either long-dimension items or heavy items, such as lawnmowers or large timber. To ensure the Driver has enough vehicle space for the delivery and the ability to load and unload these items safely, we require trailers. You’ll see under Delivery Options if the Gig requires a trailer.

Senders who post Gigs labeled “Trailer Required (Hitch OK)” may have trailers available to rent at the pickup location if you do not have your own trailer. If you don’t have a trailer, you must call the sender to confirm a trailer is available prior to offering on the Gig. Roadie does not provide drivers with trailers and doesn’t control whether a sender provides trailers for rent. Neither Senders nor Roadie will reimburse you for any costs or other liability you may incur in renting or using a trailer.

DRIVER TRAILER VERIFICATION PROCESS

Prior to receiving the Trailer Required certification, Drivers must provide images of their trailer for manual review by the Roadie Team.

Drivers submit these images via a Typeform link in the Roadie app. You can access the Typeform in 2 places:

  1. Through the Gig Tag. This tag (and the button within) is visible even after the Driver has the certificate on their profile.
  2. When submitting an offer. When a Driver without the Trailer Required certification submits an offer and selects “I have a trailer,” we’ll ask for proof. Tapping “add proof” will show the Typeform.

Once the Typeform has been submitted by the Driver, an email is sent to Roadie for review.

Drivers who do not have trailers but have hitches may also apply for a hitch-only version of the Trailer Required certification by offering on a Trailer Required (Hitch OK) Gig. Drivers will be asked to confirm their vehicle has a hitch and can tow more than 1500 lbs, and they possess the skills and experience to drive with a trailer.

Extra Equipped

Some oversized Gigs require extra equipment for successful delivery. These Gigs typically consist of either long-dimension items or heavy items, such as electronics or appliances. To ensure the Driver has the ability to load and unload these items safely without assistance, we require additional equipment.

Extra Equipment Required:

  • Dolly or cart
  • Ramps, trailer, straps, blankets (optional)

DRIVER EXTRA EQUIPPED VERIFICATION PROCESS

Prior to receiving the Extra Equipped certification, Drivers must provide images of their equipment for manual review by the Roadie Team.

Drivers submit these images via a Typeform link in the Roadie app. This link is available by clicking the “Complete Requirement” button on Gigs that require extra equipment. If a driver already has the certification, they will see “Submit Offer” instead.

Once the Typeform has been submitted by the Driver, an email is sent to Roadie for review.

Roadie TSA Certification

TSA regulations require trained and screened Drivers for any Gig being delivered to an airport cargo facility.

Requirements to become a TSA Certified Driver:

  • TSA Training
  • TSA Screening
  • Documentation for TSA (license, work authorization)
